Reaction Article: John Cyr

John Cyr Connecticut College is where it all began for John Cyr when he first became interested in photography. His career began with just 2 photography classes and 4 independent work studies while receiving his bachelors in fine art. One of his work studies included a summer workshop in Maine, working in the darkroom amongst Arnold Newman and others.  Upon graduating, Cyr decided to move to New York. When he arrived, he got an internship with Jim Magraney at a printing lab, which immediately blossomed into an apprenticeship followed by a paid position. In this position, he developed prints for Jim Goldberg and Gordon Parks, and many others for nearly 5 years. After the transition from analog to digital, John made the decision to further his education with a masters degree at the School of Visual Arts. During the recession in 2009, he lost his job at the printing lab but with his developed relationships, he was able to support himself by opening his own lab in Dumbo, Brook
