Reaction Article: Allen Keener

At only 19 years old, Allen Keener began his remarkable career in the field of photography at a newspaper. Throughout his career, he has partaken in many parts of the photography industry. Advertising, wedding, fine art, portraiture, and photojournalism to name a few. 

But his heart remained interested in the photojournalism realm, enjoying the excitement of the new day to day projects. From murder trials to car accidents, to burning buildings and children mishaps to the discovery of vaccinations, he has photographed it all.

Keener made a significant career shift, in the peak of his photojournalist career to pursue his Master in Fine arts, as a way to become a professor of photography.  He grew fond of the need to share is knowledge of the art with students, inspired by his encounter of community college. Upon graduating from Rochester Institute of Technology, shortly after he received a position as an adjunct professor. Further down his career, he accepted a job opportunity here at Suffolk County Community College.  

With over 40 years of experience in the photography industry, it is safe to say,  Allen Keener is a force to be reckoned with.
